Netflix previews new poster for new live-action “Ghost Fighter” set to premier in December 2023
Netflix dropped a new poster for the upcoming live-action adaptation of “Yu Yu Hakusho” ahead of its release, confirming two casts,Takumi Kitamura playing Yukuse Urameshi (Eugene) and Jun Shison will be Kurama (Dennis), through its Twitter page on Saturday, July 16.
The posters show Eugene's iconic ray gun, Dennis' rose whip, Vincent's bandaged arm, and Alfred holding his uniform over his shoulder.
“Yu Yu Hakusho,” popularly known as “Ghost Fighter” in the Philippines, is based on a manga of the same name created by Yoshihiro Togashi which was published in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1990 and was adapted into an anime series in 1992.
The story follows Yusuke, a 14-year-old high school delinquent who dies in a car accident after attempting to save a child’s life and wakes up in the Underworld.
He then undergoes different tests and is granted a second life working as a detective who investigates cases that have to do with ghosts and demons.
Takumi is famously known for his roles in films "Let Me Eat Your Pancreas" and "Tokyo Revengers" while Jun appears in "The Way of the Househusband" live action television series and voice-acted in the anime film Bubble.
“The original work is a universal and unique masterpiece and a reason why Japan is so proud of its strong manga and anime culture. I am happy to share the masterpiece of Yu Yu Hakusho with the world and I hope we can create something people everywhere will enjoy,” Kitamura said in Japanese in an interview, according to an IGN report.
The Netflix adaptation of the series was first announced in June 2020 while the production was confirmed in December of the same year.
The live-action series is set to premiere in December 2023.
