Whatever the plot will be, the success of Squid Games season 2 will be the biggest mystery for Netflix.

“Squid Game,” the K-drama series that took the whole world by storm since its release in September is now officially renewed for another season, Netflix has announced.

In an interview with AP, Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of Squid Games, said that the massive fanfare left him "no choice" and that lead character Gi-hun "will do something for the world."

"There's been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season, so I almost feel like you leave us no choice... It's in my head right now. I'm in the planning process currently." Hwang added.

Its enormous cultural impact which was felt around the world since it first dropped makes it inevitable to continue it for at least another season.

Countries as far afield as Australia, Netherlands and here in the Philippines have had the life scared out of them by giant-sized 'Red Light, Green Light' dolls in October.

Netflix even hit an all-time high in their stocks with this Korean masterpiece. Last September 30, Netflix shares closed at $610.34, up 1.88 percent from the previous day, breaking an all-time high on the New York Stock Exchange.

At some point during the day, it rose to a high of $619.

The effect of the Korean drama “Squid Game”, which hit the jackpot worldwide, is visible, according to analysts.

Executives at the streaming service predicted that the Korean-language series will be Netflix’s most popular show ever, already ranking at #1 in several countries since it made its debut on September 17.

What to expect

So what can we expect for Squid Game season 2?

According to Hwang, he admits that “there are some other stories in the series that have not been addressed” in season 1.

“Season one ends with Gi-hun turning back and not getting on the plane to the States. And that was, in fact, my way of communicating the message that you should not be dragged along by the competitive flow of society, but that you should start thinking about who has created the whole system—and whether there is some potential for you to turn back and face it.”

Whatever the plot will be, the success of Squid Games season 2 will be the biggest mystery for Netflix.

The pressure to do better than the first offering would be near impossible but Hwang is a genius and he might just do it again.
