‘Citizen Jake’ by Mike De Leon to be streamed weeks before national election.

Mike De Leon’s 2018 film ‘Citizen Jake’ set to resurface for free on Mulat Premiere Cinema (cinema.mulatmedia.com), an all-Filipino made app, on two special weekends: from April 9 to 10 for the commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) and April 30 to May 1, coinciding with Labor Day celebrations.

‘Citizen Jake’, starring real-life journalist Atom Araullo, is a political movie revolving around an idealistic citizen journalist named Jake Herrera, a new school journalist who is in a constant clash with his politician father, a Marcos apologist, in search of and protecting the truth.

The movie also stars Teroy Guzman as Jake’s father Jacobo Hererra Sr. who plays a corrupt senator, Gabby Eigenmann as his congressman-brother Roxie, and Max Collins as Mandy, an English school teacher and Jake’s girlfriend.

Other notable portrayals in the movie come from familiar names Cherie Gil, Victor Neri, Allan Paule, Nonie Buencamino, Lou Veloso, and Dina Bonnevie.

The film strongly reflects director Mike de Leon’s beef with abused authority, which for the multi-awarded innovator is “not one to be followed blindly.”

De Leon’s filmography include classics from the 70s (“Itim,” “Kung Mangarap Ka’t Magising,” “Kakabakaba Ka Ba?”), and the 80s (“Kisapmata,” “Batch ’81,” “Sister Stella L.”).

Mulat’s streaming of ‘Citizen Jake’ hopes to serve as an invaluable platform for content creators, filmmakers, influencers, and other modern-day artists as well as to aim to educate the masses.

“I think showing Mike De Leon’s film Citizen Jake cannot come at a better time,” said Mel Bacani III, creative director of Mulat Media, in an email to Rappler, citing how the dates fall near the May 9 polls.

De Leon alsoadded that there could be possible re-screenings of Kisapmata, Batch 81, Bayaning 3rd World, Aliwan Paradise, and Itim in the same way.
