Nintendo’s Game Builder Garage is, literally, a game where gamers can build their own games and have fun doing them.

NINTENDO is releasing Game Builder Garage, where the ‘gameplay’ is to make a game!

It teaches programming and game design using fun visuals and interactive lessons.

A possible step up from Super Mario Maker and Nintendo Labo, Nintendo continues to encourage interest in game development, programming, and software design.

Game Builder Garage will be released on June 11 for $29.99.

Players will be guided on the basics of visual game programming through the hundreds of cute Nodon creatures who they can attach properties to such as the control stick, button, counter, effect, texture, and so on.

The game has pre-built lessons to guide the user to create seven different games but also offer the free programming mode wherein players can take what they’ve learned and build their own games.

Of course, players will be able to share their creations and programming among each other, learn from each other, or work on a game together over the internet or a local wireless connection.

Fans have also pointed out that they noticed that the game supports a compatible USB mouse with the software, which could lead to interesting docked games.

“You’ll be able to create a wide variety of different types of video games too – from side-scrolling platformers, to kart racers, to space blasters!” said Nintendo in a press release.

The new game is said to be Nintendo’s latest attempt at making user-friendly creation games.

In 2016, the company partnered with the San Francisco Public Library to be creative at making their own Super Mario level with the Super Mario Maker.

Back in 2018 Nintendo released the game Nintendo Labo and offered different kits consisting of cardboard sheets players can use to build to make the Nintendo Switch versatile.

With the cardboard sheets players can build a fishing line and use the visual programming in the software to create a fishing game.

They can also build a steering wheel and create a racing game, and so on.

It was a unique concept, only possible with the new console and it was expected to do very well in the market. According to their report in January 2019, it sold over a million units.

It was doing well but only in March this year, players noticed that the labo.nintendo.com home page has been removed and now just redirects to the Toy-Con 04: VR Kit page.

Some hardcore gamers even picked up that the last Labo kit released was back in 2019.

The move was interpreted as a sign that the company was moving on from the concept because it provided inexpensive peripherals for Switch users and promoted ingenuity for the younger players.

With Game Builder Garage, the company could have pivoted and gone beyond the Labo while still promoting creativity and introducing young players into programming, a lucrative future in our growing digital world. (HD)
