Miel Pangilinan announced that she is a part of the LGBTQ community

Miel Pangilinan, the second daughter of high-profile parents-- megastar Sharon Cuneta and Senator Francisco Kiko Pangilinan (who recently lost the vice presidential race), took to Instagram her coming out as a member of the LGBT community on Tuesday night.

Miel, 17, accompanied the post with pictures of her posing with the LGBTQ flag, beginning her caption with:

“this June, I am celebrating my first pride month as openly and publicly queer”.

Miel revealed that she spent her childhood exploring her gender and sexual identity, and is happy that she is now at a place where she is

“comfortable enough in who I am and who I love, and how I choose to present”.

“It’s a really emotional and freeing time right now, and I’m endlessly thankful to my close friends and family who have supported me and shown me love as I’ve grown and explored my own gender and sexuality,” she said

After her announcement, Pangilinan received supportive comments from sister Kakie, KC Concepcion, relatives Kiana Valenciano and Gab Pangilinan, and actress Judy Ann Santos.

Also in an Instagram, Sharon shared her thoughts on Miel publicly coming out and admitted that she knew that it will draw a lot of attention but what matters most is that she will have a happier daughter who is now “free.”

“Lots of people who are quick to judge instead of pausing to think for a moment that my daughter, like so many members of the LGBTQ+ community, did not choose to be queer. She just is,” she said on the post. .

“I will love her just the same, if not more. Like I said, all my children are perfect. I may be a mom with traditional values, but that doesn’t mean that my mind is too tiny to accept people for what they are — what more my own child?” the Megastar added.

Miel then ended her Instagram post by saying

“and yes, I am the gay cousin.”
