Liza Soberano is elated that she was included in the Netflix adaptation of Pinoy horror-crime anime Trese as one of the voices of the heroine.

The series currently has 7 books under the main series and several books of re-released issues, comic shorts, short stories, and more.

THE award-winning local supernatural comic Trese which is set in modern-day Manila, will have an animated series adaptation in Netflix and Liza Soberano was chosen to voice the iconic crime-fighting heroine.

"It's an honor to be the voice of an iconic character such as Alexandra Trese." She adds, "I'm a huge fan of Budjette and Kajo's award-winning Trese comics. Maraming salamat! Excited nako,"Liza tweeted.

Alongside her, Canadian actress Shay Mitchell will also be voicing Trese. Jay Oliva (Wonder Woman, The Legend of Korra) will serve as Executive Producer and Director, and Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson at BASE Entertainment, a studio based in Jakarta and Singapore, are the series' Executive Producers.

Written by Budjette Tan and drawn by Kajo Baldisimo, Trese was first published in 2005 as a horror-crime comic following the story of Alexandra Trese.

The series currently has 7 books under the main series and several books of re-released issues, comic shorts, short stories, and more.

The logline of Trese comics read,

"When the sun sets in the city of Manila, don’t you dare make a wrong turn and end up in that dimly-lit side of the metro, where blood-sucking aswang run the most-wanted kidnapping rings, where gigantic kapre are the kingpins of crime, and magical engkantosslip through the cracks and steal your most precious possessions. When crime takes a turn for the weird, the police call Alexandra Trese."

The awards for the comic include the National Book Award Best Graphic Literature 2010, Filipino Readers' Choice Award for Comics/Graphic Novels 2013, and the National Book Award for Best Anthology in English 2014.

In a 2020 interview, creator Budjette Tan shares his inspiration behind Trese: “The inspiration for Trese is simply growing up in Manila… I grew up hearing advice telling me that, if you pass by a road and you see a mound of dirt, you have to say tabi-tabi po. Or in the provinces, you have to hang garlic by the window so the aswang won’t come in. Growing up in that kind of environment made me feel like this must be real.”

Netflix announced the animated adaptation early last year and released the teaser stills in October during the Netflix Anime Festival 2020.

Their Facebook page writes, "Aswangs of Manila, beware: Alexandra Trese is coming for you." The series is expected to stream this year but no release date yet. (HD)
