In the TV franchise, Lea Salonga portrays the role of Elodie, the overbearing mom of Minnie (played by Malia Pyles) who works hard for her daughter.
INTERNATIONAL singer Lea Salonga is back where her heart truly is—the world stage where she was also adored and lavished with accolades.
This time it isn’t only on Broadway but in HBO, no less, as she acts in the reboot of “Pretty Little Liars” for HBO Max with an array of renowned multiracial stars.
Excitement can’t conceal in Lea’s pen as she writes on cyber diary memories of her first workday for the series.
“It might be a while before I get over this, but already I feel like I’m meant to be here. Just very grateful for everything going on,” Salonga noted on a social media post.
Another memory springs up and lives in the makeup room of the show as she reunites with her hairdresser some years back.
“This is one of those ‘Oh my God what a small world this was meant to be’ sort of stories… I’ve been assigned to a hairdresser. I hear her name (Theresa) and I hear her voice…immediately there was something familiar about her. So I IMDB’d her, and lo and behold, it turns out she was one of the hairdressers on ‘As the World Turns,’ the daytime drama I was in for six months back in the day. I reintroduced myself to her, after which we both had a slight freakout moment. It feels good to be in hands that have handled my head before,” Lea posted on her Facebook pages.
In the TV franchise, Lea portrays the role of Elodie, the overbearing mom of Minnie (played by Malia Pyles) who works hard for her daughter.
Others in the cast are Sharon Leal (“Dream Girls”), Elena Goode (“Straight Outta Compton”), Zakiva Young (”Orange is the New Black”) and Carly Pope (“Demonic”).
“Pretty Little Liars” is about a company of women who are haunted by a mysterious figure named “A” who threatens to divulge their deep, personal secrets.
Meanwhile, Salonga did a splendid presenter’s job in the recently concluded 74th Tony Awards at the Winter Garden Theater in New York.
Lea—who won Tony’s Best Actress in 1991 for her landmark performance as Kim in the Broadway hit “Miss Saigon”—was stunning during the awards night while she was excited as well to step anew on the illustrious proscenium.
In her socmed musings, Salonga wrote: “These are the only pics I took of the tony awards dress rehearsal this morning as I wanted to soak in the atmosphere. Saw the beautiful upper halves of many legendary faces (everyone was masked and tested) and it was quite astounding that we could recognize one another without taking the face down or off. The atmosphere was electric and emotional. There were not just a few of us that haven’t been inside a theater for 18 months or more, so just walking into one felt like a pilgrimage and an experience we’ll never take for granted again.”
