Kevin Spacey charged with sexual assault and is due to appear on a British court
Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey-- officially charged by London police with four counts of sexual assault against three men--is due to appear in a British court on Thursday, London's Metropolitan Police Service said.
Spacey is accused of five offenses: four counts of sexual assault, and a further charge of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent with the assaults taking place between March 2005 and April 2013.
Four of his offenses took place in the British capital and one in Gloucestershire, west England which involved one man who is now in his 40s and two men now in their 30s.
The decision to formally charge Spacey came after "a review by the Crown Prosecution Service of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation," which has been authorized by the Britain's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), but the charges could not be formally applied until he was in the UK.
"While I am disappointed with their decision to move forward, I will voluntarily appear in the UK as soon as can be arranged and defend myself against these charges, which I am confident will prove my innocence," the statement read, which was released to Good Morning America.
Allegations of sexual assault have been present since 2017 and London's Old Vic theater, where he served as the artistic director between 2004 to 2015, claimed it had received 20 separate accusations alleging Spacey's conduct against 20 men who came into contact with him at the theater, or interacted with him, between 1995 and 2013.
The actor was then immediately removed from the famous series 'House of Cards' and the movie 'All the Money in the World' but returned to the acting scene last year.
The actor will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court in London on Thursday.
