70’s Pinoy singer Victor Wood, known as the “Jukebox King,” reportedly passed away today due to Covid-19 according to sources.

THE Philippine entertainment scene is once more wearing a mourning pin.

Singer Victor Wood, known as the Philippines’ “Jukebox King” and “Plaka King,” has passed away earlier today (April 23) due to Covid-19.

He was 75 years old.

Wood’s death was announced in the social media spaces of the Katipunan ng mga Artista ng Pelikulang Pilipino at Telebisyon (KAPPT) or the Actors Guild of the Philippines posted by Doods Jimenez, one of the active members of the organization.

“It’s sad news. Another COVID patient died today. Rest in Peace, Bro. Victor Wood. Thank you for the music. Prayers for him,” Marie Cusi, a family friend of the Woods, posted on social media.

No other details on the circumstances of Wood’s passing were given.

However, showbiz luminaries are already pouring out their sympathy to the singer’s family.

Fellow singer Nilo de Castro said, “Rest in Peace, Kuya (a term of endearment and respect to an older man or an elder brother by blood or by affinity) Victor.”

“It’s sad,” said Martin Escudero, the actor who plays Victor in the biopic “Jukebox King: The Victor Wood Story” produced by EBC Productions, whose teaser was released a month ago.
“Nakikiramay (Sharing sympathies),” said Dranreb Belleza.
Filmmaker Frank G. Rivera lamented, “A musical era ends without a sigh.”

Wood, who came from Buhi, Camarines Sur, rose from obscurity to become one of the biggest Filipino singers during the 1970s.
