Time flies indeed fast.
Was it only yesterday when I brought then a young actor who had just transitioned from a child star—Janus del Prado—to Perez, Quezon?
I was introduced to a woman named Esay Edwards by a town mate who dabbled in community reporting in Quezon Province. I was informed that Esay, a Filipina who married a British national who loved her so much, offered her heaven and earth, eventually settled in the coastal town but still would go back and forth the United Kingdom.
Esay met her Briton lover in a Duty-Free shop at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in the 1990s. The Filipina was working in a store as a saleslady when she was spotted by the British national who quickly had a feeling of affection for her he didn’t accept “No” for an answer. Esay, as she was fondly called by her kith and kin in Perez and in Manila, gave in to the irrepressible courtship of the British.
Soon, they got married and she sported the name Edwards.
Esay was loved by the whole Edwards clan. The Englishman husband built their house by the sea—a very exquisite and noble abode for the lovers. Eventually, they also built a beach resort.
More than that, the Pinay’s parents-in-law were enamored to Esay. Whenever the mom-in-law would come to the Philippines, after setting foot at the airport, she would travel by seaplane to Perez, according to Esay.
Unfortunately, the husband died before the dad-in-law and they were both buried in Perez.
Back to Janus del Prado who is now a grownup, mature thespian.
When Esay stood as one of the Hermana Mayors during a Mayflower celebration in Perez, she requested me an actor to act as an escort to the Reyna Elena of the occasion so I brought in Janus with her mom in tow because he was just a minor.
Del Prado was signed with Star Magic at the time but her mom Amy went with our invitation despite the sea travel.
Another occasion I went to Perez was through the invite of Esay was when I brought D’Bodies to the town which brought the whole house down.
On both occasions, we were housed in the beautiful beach resort of the Edwardses.
Recently, when Fernando Martinez, a prominent Lopenze businessman who is an apparent congressional aspirant, sent me photos of his dream beach and vacation house in Perez, I was reminded of the gorgeous home by the sea of Esay who I heard had already sold the property. Fernando was there for a consultation with farmers in the locality. He spent the night in his dream house.
I was trying to decipher if this beautiful if not restructured royal-like dwelling was the same place Janus and the D’Bodies stayed in while giving the local residents an entertainment as panacea to their daily worries.
“Baka nga (It might be the one),” said Martinez who wanted to discover its history of ownership.
