Jang Gyu-ri of fromis_9 leaves group “to embark on a new journey” after her original contract with previous agency has terminated.
K-pop idol Jang Gyu-ri of fromis_9 has officially left the group with the expiration of her exclusive contract which will end on July 31, as announced by her agency PLEDIS Entertainment.
In August last year, the other eight members of fromis_9, namely Lee Saerom, Song Hayoung, Park Jiwon, Roh Jisun, Lee Seoyeon, Lee Chaeyoung, Lee Nagyung, and Baek Jiheon, signed a new contract with PLEDIS Entertainment but Gyu-ri“maintained the conditions of the original contract with her former agency,” which is then set to expire by the end of this month.
In a statement written on July 28, PLEDIS announced that fromis_9 will move on as an 8-piece group starting August and will proceed with planned activities and events.
“Fromis_9 will become an 8-member group starting from this coming August and will meet their fans in their upcoming Japanese activities and other various activities scheduled for the second half of this year,” it said
The idol will then wrap up her stay with the group and the agency “to embark on a new journey” after finishing her promotional activities with the group for fromis_9’s fifth EP from our Memento Box which features their song “Stay This Way.”
“The artist and the company made the decision after careful consideration and discussions on what would be the best path for everyone. Please continue to send your love and support to Jang Gyuri, who has always committed to do her best as a member of fromis_9, and to the eight members of fromis_9, who will start a new chapter of their careers,” the statement read.
Gyu-ri debuted as a member of fromis_9 in January of 2018 after being a part of the Mnet survival program ‘Idol School’ and then went on to explore acting with the tvN D web drama series, ‘Dating Class’.
