Dispatch’s new year couple is IU and Lee Jong-suk who, together with their agencies, confirmed the news and revealed that they have been dating for four months now.

Just in time for the New Year, a new power couple has just confirmed their relationship shortly after the Korean tabloid Dispatch – known for exposing celebrity relationships on the first day of the New Year – reported that the pair had spent their Christmas together in Nagoya, Japan.

South Korean actor Lee Jong-suk and singer-actress IU revealed that they have been dating for four months now in separate letters addressed to their supporters and through their respective agencies.

According to Asia One, Lee’s agency, HighZium first confirmed the relationship in a statement saying: “Lee Jong-suk and IU recently went from being close acquaintances to lovers, and they are now maintaining a serious relationship.

"Please cheer them on so that they can continue their beautiful relationship."

IU's agency, EDAM Entertainment, also released a statement of their own not long after.

“IU and Lee Jong Suk recently progressed from being close acquaintances into a good relationship. We ask for the warm reception of fans.”

Speculation of Jung-suk being in a relationship sparked after the 33-year-old actor won the Daesang award for his role in crime thriller Big Mouth at the 2022 MBC Drama Awards on Friday and gave thanks to an unnamed person in his acceptance speech.

"After completing my military service, I had a lot of worries and fears. But there was someone who helped me to set a good direction and to have positive thoughts. I would like to take this opportunity to say that I thank you for always being awesome,” said Jong-suk as reported by The Korea Times.

"And that I have liked you for a very long time, and that I respect you."

According to Soompi, the families of the couple are already aware of the relationship which made more sense that IU sang the celebratory song at Jong-suk’s younger brother’s wedding earlier this year and that the actor personally invited IU’s younger brother along on their Christmas vacation.
