Kim Sungkyu of INFINITE has been hospitalized after sustaining a jaw injury that would require him to undergo surgery.

INFINITE’s leader and main vocalist Kim Sungkyu will undergo jaw surgery after sustaining a fracture “while going about his day-to-day life,” confirmed by his agency Double H TNE on August 8.

The agency said Kim Sungkyu sustained a chin injury on August 7 and has been taken to the hospital for a detailed examination and will be needing surgery and treatment for a period of time.

“This is an announcement for fans regarding Kim Sungkyu’s injury. While going about his day-to-day life on August 7 (Sunday), Kim Sungkyu sustained a chin injury and went to a nearby hospital emergency room to undergo detailed examinations,” read the statement.

“He is currently hospitalized and as a result of his tests showing a jaw fracture, he has surgery scheduled this week. Following the surgery, he will need treatment for a period of time. As we should be prioritizing our artist’s health and quick recovery, we’ve decided to focus on his injury recovery,” it added.

Due to the injury, Sungkyu will not be able to attend some of the performances of his musical "Kinky Boots”, where he plays the character Charlie, on the dates August 10, 13, and 15.

His character will be temporarily played by actor Shin Jaebom instead.

According to the other INFINITE members, Sungkyu expressed his gratitude to the fans in their group chat for the support that he has been getting for his upcoming surgery.

He also added that they do not need to worry as he will do everything he can to recover well and still be fine after the surgery.

“After the injured area has stably recovered, [Kim Sungkyu] plans to meet fans in good health.

We will do everything we can for Kim Sungkyu's quick recovery.

We deeply thank the fans who have always sent endless love and we will inform you about his post-surgery recovery progress at a later time,” the statemed ended.
