How does an actor humanize a real-life character onscreen to appear natural and relatable to the ordinary moviegoers?

Ask award-winning actor Richard Quan.

It is because when Richard was offered the role of Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib in the biopic "Kuya," he talked intently with Francis "Jun" Posadas about interpreting the true nature of the character.

Quan believes that political figures translated and adapted in film should be as real as possible.

"Kasi, mga tao rin sila. Hindi dapat na puro kalakasan lang ng mga pulitiko. Kailangan na maipamalas din ang kanilang kahinaan (Because they are also human. It shouldn't always be the strength and artificial invincibility of a politician. We should also show their weaknesses," asserted Richard on the set shot Wednesday afternoon at Valley Golf and Country Club in Antipolo City.

According to Quan, the human side of Jubahib isn't difficult to show because of the natural traits attributed to him like his being a farmer, vegetables dealer, bus driver and conductor before he studied engineering and eventually ventured in politics.

"Nagkasundo naman kami ni Direk Jun kaya sa script pa lang, kitang-kita ang pagiging taung-tao ni Edwin Jubahib (Direk Jun and I easily agreed about humanizing a screen character so basically in the script alone Edwin Jubahib is a human with weaknesses like how he was caught indecisive between running or not public office)," Richard opined.
