Who would have forgotten the impeccable performance of former child actor Jiro Manio in the 2003 film “Magnifico”?

His genuine innocence portrayed in the film earned him the coveted Best Actor Award in Gawad Urian 2004 (Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino).

Two decades after he received the award, Jiro Manio bid his Gawad Urian Trophy for P500,000 to “Boss Toyo,” a collector and YouTube vlogger.

However, negotiations for the trophy went down to P50,000 as Boss Toyo doubted if the price of the trophy would be appraised in the future. Manio doubled his counteroffer with P100,000, until the bid was finally sealed at P75,000.

Boss Toyo also noted that there was no name of Manio engraved on the trophy, so the former child actor put his signature instead.

Manio's life went into a major downturn when he stepped back from the limelight, as he struggled with addiction. He went into rehabilitation four times. To recall, his “showbiz mother,” Ai-Ai Delas Alas, helped him when reports circulated, seeing him in the airport begging for food.

Manio’s rehabilitation several times went successful, as he is now in a “good condition” and is currently working as a volunteer in a rehabilitation center in Bataan.

The promising young actor bagged several awards in some of the prestigious award-giving bodies, including the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (FAMAS) and Best Child Performer in 2001’s Metro Manila Film Festival, among others.
