She has never been a mother all her life so when actress Chanel Latorre was assigned as a mom—uniquely as a pregnant inmate in a correctional—in GMA Network’s afternoon drama “Nakarehas na Puso,” she was clueless as to breathe life to the character.
“Sa cast namin, isa ako sa nagpeplay na nanay na hindi pa talaga nanay sa totoong buhay. Aaminin ko na napressure talaga ako (In the cast, I am one of them who play a mom who isn’t a mother in real life. Admittedly, I am pressured),” confessed Chanel in her Facebook wall.
Latorre plays Racquel in the television drama.
“Madaming mga nangyari kay Racquel na di ako sure kung tama ba ginagawa ko (There are a lot of things that are happening in Racquel which I as an actress don’t know if what I’m doing is right as a mother),” she continued.
It’s fortunate that Chanel is in the company of mothers in real life on the set like Jean Garcia.
“Most of the time kailangan ko ng guidance and reassurance kanila Ms. Jean at mga director ang sobrang naging learning experience itong show na ito for me. May mga times na feeling ko di ko nagawa best ko and nalulungkot ako when I feel that because I felt na (I need the guidance of Ms. Jean and my directors so that I learn a lot from this show. There are even times I feel I didn’t do my best so I feel sad) I failed to represent a mother’s love,” she explained.
Latorre admitted she is able to reassure and to make up for the uncertainties in her acting craft.
“Nakakabawi naman (I am able to recover) most of the time and satisfied din naman ako at the end of the day. I am very much grateful sa GMA for trusting me to be part of the show,” she clarified.
Racquel, added Boom (Chanel’s pet name), pushes her to enter that experience to be a loving and selfless mother.
Latorre disclosed that portraying a mom onscreen gets the better of her empathy to all mothers.
“Habang ginagawa ko ito naaappreciate ko lalo ang mga nanay sa mundo. Saludo ako sa inyo! (While I am doing this I appreciate more all the mothers in the world. I salute you! At sa Mamita Rhoda ko, Mama Sally, Mama Brenda, Auntie Lyn, Auntie Bebot, Auntie Bevs, mga tita at mga kaibigan kong nanay offline and online, mahal ko kayo.
