In J.D. Salinger’s novel, “The Catcher in the Rye,” its main character Holden Caulfield expressed his thoughts about death of someone beloved. He said that you don’t easily forget the death of a loved one, like his brother Abbie, especially if he was the best person, kinder than all persons who are alive and all.

The Ranillos might not be particularly thinking of the narrative of this literary piece but this is exactly what they are going to do as they remember losing their ever dearest mom, Gloria Sevilla.

According to Sam Costanilla, a very good friend of the Ranillos, the project is being spearheaded by actor Dandin Ranillo, one of Gloria’s sons. Dandin is right now preparing a tribute to Sevilla, known as the Queen of Visayan Movies aside from being a popular national actress.

Dandin, a California-based artist, in cooperation with the Cebu City led by Mayor Michael Rama and the office of City Councilor James Anthony Cuenco, are laying the groundwork to honor Gloria who died in the US at the age of 90.

According to Dandin and Sam, the tribute for the award-winning actress will be held on July 31, 2022 at the Wing Atrium of SM Seaside in Cebu City.

They said that the homage starts with the registration of invited guests at 12 noon.

They added that during the event, the Gloria Sevilla Foundation will also be formally and officially launched.

In a separate announcement, Dandin said that the foundation has been created to continue the legacy of his mom as a film, television and theater artist.

“The foundation’s goal is to revive and promote Visayan movies as well as help in poverty alleviation,” Ranillo stressed.

Several filmmakers are expected to attend the tribute with some local entertainers singing few Visayan songs that Sevilla learned to appreciate and were even used as titles of a number of her movies.

The July 31 program is open to the public.
