Gamer's Guide: Atom Eve
Invincible Presents: Atom Eve is a narrative-driven role-playing game that places players in control of Samantha Eve Wilkins, better known as the superhero Atom Eve. Blending turn-based combat with choice-driven storytelling, the game allows players to shape Eve’s growth through a customizable skill tree and a branching narrative where dialogue decisions—sometimes timed—can significantly alter the course of events.
As Eve gains experience from defeating enemies and completing quests, players must balance how her powers evolve. Focusing on abilities that improve persuasion and dialogue may unlock new story paths, but can also limit Eve’s effectiveness in combat. Conversely, prioritizing raw combat strength can make conversations more difficult, reinforcing the game’s emphasis on consequence and trade-offs.
Combat unfolds in a strategic, turn-based format where Eve has the unique advantage of anticipating her enemies’ next moves. Players can spend energy to counter incoming attacks or execute their own actions, and any unused energy carries over into the next turn. This system encourages careful planning, as every decision—whether in battle or conversation—feeds into Eve’s broader journey of self-discovery and responsibility.
The story opens with a flashback that establishes Eve’s superhero life. As Atom Eve, she confronts and defeats the villain Killcannon, showcasing her formidable matter-manipulation powers. After the fight, she is approached by Robot, a calculating and enigmatic hero who invites her to join his teenage superhero team, the Teen Team. Eve returns home afterward, where she is forced to reveal her secret identity to her parents, setting the stage for the ongoing tension between her personal life and her heroic responsibilities.
A year later, while on patrol, Eve witnesses a mysterious green-skinned female alien flying above the city. Before she can investigate further, Killcannon resurfaces, but Eve swiftly defeats him and leaves the aftermath to the Teen Team. The following day marks the beginning of Eve’s senior year of high school, grounding the cosmic and superhuman elements of the story in the familiar anxieties of teenage life.
The Teen Team soon responds to a robbery orchestrated by the Mauler Twins, during which they are unexpectedly aided by a pajama-clad newcomer calling himself Invincible. At school the next day, Eve meets fellow student Mark Grayson, who confides in her that he is Invincible. The two quickly form a friendship, along with Mark’s friends William Clockwell and Amber Bennett, creating a close-knit circle that blends ordinary teenage bonds with extraordinary secrets.
Eve’s moral resolve is tested when she encounters a troubled student named Todd, who has a crude chemical bomb grafted to his chest. Faced with limited time, Eve must choose between attempting to defuse the bomb or prioritizing the evacuation of nearby civilians. One choice may save Todd, while the other ensures the safety of many at the cost of his life. Regardless of the outcome, Eve is determined to uncover who created the device.
Her investigation is interrupted by reports of a disturbance at the city’s power plant, where Eve comes face to face with the green alien she spotted earlier. The alien introduces herself as Universa, the Warrior Queen, and claims she is siphoning energy to save her dying world. The two battle fiercely, with Universa insisting her actions are necessary for her people’s survival. Eve ultimately defeats her, destroying Universa’s staff and knocking her unconscious. Robot arrives shortly after and apprehends Universa, refusing to let Eve probe deeper into her story.
As Eve continues tracing the origins of Todd’s bomb, she discovers a shocking truth: her own chemistry teacher, Hiles, was responsible for its creation and had been working with the Mauler Twins. Teaming up with Mark, Eve confronts and defeats the Twins. In the aftermath, she must decide whether to allow Hiles to take her own life using the bomb or to intervene and stop her. No matter the choice, Robot confiscates Hiles’ blueprints, though Eve forces him to promise she will eventually be allowed to speak with Universa again.
Graduation day arrives, and Eve celebrates with Mark, William, and Amber as they prepare for college. Eve admits she never applied anywhere, uncertain that a conventional path is right for her. Their optimism is shattered when news breaks that the Guardians of the Globe, Earth’s premier superhero team, have been brutally murdered. Eve and Mark attend the funeral, but Eve is deeply hurt when her boyfriend, Rex Sloan—also known as Rex Splode—fails to show up. She later learns Rex has been cheating on her with teammate Kate Cha, driven by jealousy over Eve’s closeness with Mark. Devastated, Eve ends the relationship.
Not long afterward, Robot informs Eve that he has been chosen by the Global Defense Agency to lead a new incarnation of the Guardians, a move that also dissolves the Teen Team. Eve declines his offer to join. At home, she clashes with her parents over her breakup and her future, eventually storming out and retreating to the suburbs, where she constructs a treehouse as a place of solitude and reflection.
The next day, Eve is contacted by Cecil Stedman, the director of the GDA, who reveals that Universa has requested to speak with her. Before this can happen, however, Eve learns that Mark is locked in a catastrophic battle with his father, Nolan Grayson—Omni-Man—who is revealed to be the murderer of the original Guardians. Eve tries to reach Mark but is intercepted by the villain Doc Seismic. She defeats him, only to discover that Omni-Man has fled into space and Mark has been left critically injured.
In the aftermath, Eve reconnects with William and Amber. Amber, frustrated by Mark’s constant disappearances, has broken up with him and begins to suspect his secret identity. Eve grapples with whether to reveal her own secret to her friends. She later visits a GDA prison facility, where Cecil allows her to meet Universa. The alien pleads with Eve to recover her Staff of Leadership so she can leave Earth and seek alternative ways to save her people. Eve tracks down the two halves of the staff—one held by Killcannon, the other at the power plant—and repairs it.
After checking on Mark as he recovers, Eve returns the staff to the prison, only for Universa to escape and reclaim it. Preparing for a final confrontation, Eve accepts Robot’s assistance and heads back to the power plant. There, she faces both Killcannon and Universa in a climactic battle. In the end, Eve must decide whether to trust Universa and help her siphon energy to save her world, or side with the GDA and stop her.
The story concludes with the consequences of Eve’s choices rippling outward. Depending on her actions and relationships, she may rekindle her romance with Rex, begin a new one with Mark, or choose independence. Returning to her treehouse, Eve looks toward the future with cautious hope, having embraced both the weight of her powers and the freedom to define her own path.
