After it disbanded, who now owns Freestyle, the name of the musical group?
“It’s mine,” exclaimed vocalist Top Suzara referring to the ownership of the name Freestyle, the pop band he organized and made popular in 1997.
“So it’s yours,” echoed, stressed and reassured TV5’s MJ Marfori after which Top immediately reaffirmed during the media launch of “Freestyle: Giving It All This Time…And More” Monday afternoon.
According to Suzara, the name has already been registered with the Intellectual Property Office (IPO).
Aside from music, Top announced that the brand is branching on other interests like advertising, live entertainment and merchandise.
These expanded platforms are also in line with Top’s growing into new horizons and setting the pace for a bigger and grander chapter in his journey as an Original Pilipino Music (OPM) wonder.
In 2005, Top embarked on his solo singing career and recorded classic Original Pilipino Music (OPM) ballads such as “Sabihin Mo Na.”
At the time, Freestyle as a collective entity had taken the backseat.
This time, building on the band’s discography of hit songs such as "Before I Let You Go," "So Slow," "This Time," "Till I Found You," “Para Sayo,” their rendition of "Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang?" and “Once In A Lifetime,” Suzara and Freestyle will reconnect with their fans and listeners as they release this year original music and kick off a concert series locally at 19 East on October 20, 2022 and next internationally.
The group has new set of members, though, which Top said are like family.
