Ai-Ai and Daryl face consequences after the campaign ad

For disrespecting the official seal of Quezon City in a 2.21 minute video posted on Vincentiments Facebook page, the QC Council issued a resolution declaring comedian Ai-Ai Delas Alas and director Darryl Yapas “personae non gratae.”

The resolution was submitted by District IV Councilor Ivy Lagman as the video in which Delas Alas played a character named “Ligaya Delmonte” shows the triangular seal of QC being vandalized by replacing the original text with “BBM” and “Sara.”

Originally used as a campaign video for Anakalusugan Party-list Rep. Mike Defensor, who lost in the QC mayoralty race, the now reposted video has the caption “Mayora for Mike Defensor” (The mayor is for Mike Defensor).

"The malicious and unscrupulous defacing of the official seal of Quezon City ridiculed and casted dishonor to it, causing insult to the noble representation of the seal,” Lagman stated. “The people of Quezon City will not let anyone disgrace the official seal of Quezon City for personal and selfish interests.”

Lagman stressed that the QC seal has been the official coat of arms of the city since it was approved by the Office of the President and adopted by the City Council on February 3, 1997, through Resolution No. 10320, S-1975 and that they will not let anyone disgrace the official seal of Quezon City for personal and selfish interests.

Delas Alas’ camp has yet to release a statement but Yap said he would address the issue formally through a video series after posting on his official Facebook page.

“Bagamat ang deklarasyong 'PERSONA NON GRATA' ay isang Resolusyon at hindi Ordinansa; walang kaakibat na batas—hindi po natin ito babale-walain; bibigyan natin ito ng pansin,” the post read.
