Although he grew up in Marikina City, Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon April Boy Regino had roots in Samar.
To be exact, April Boy, Dennis Regino Magloyuan Magdaraog in real life, was from Sawang, Capul, Northern Samar.
Regino and her parents came to Manila to try his luck in the local music industry because he really wanted to be a singer way back in his childhood in Caloocan City.
This and other information will be divulged in the film “Idol: The April Boy Regino Story” produced by Water Plus Productions and directed by Efren Reyes, Jr.
The film company entered the Selection Committee of the 50th Metro Manila Films Festival in the hope that it could occupy a slot in the last five movies to be chosen to screen in the festival.
Unfortunately, it didn’t make it to the final five.
But Marynette Gamboa, the producer, didn’t cry over spilt milk.
“We will show the film in November this year before the Metro Manila Film Festival. It’s all the same. Even if we were selected for the last five movies, we will still do major preparations for the festival, especially promotion.
“Even when the announcement wasn’t made yet, I have already booked the film for screening this year. We will also have a grand premiere night in November. I hope you will watch the film all throughout the Philippines.
“When we show ‘Idol…” in Region 8, I hope April Boy fans and fellow Waraynons will watch it,” requested Marynette.
