“Naughty Diva” Pinky Pop Fernandez has offered her two cents into the ownership issue of “Pusong Bato,” saying she was initially offered by composer Renee de la Rosa to interpret and record “Pusong Bato” when he was looking for a recording artist to sing the piece.

WHILE Aimee Torres, the original singer of the hit single “Pusong Bato” has called for mutual forgiveness and advancement even on the mystical realm to settle the ownership of the song with Renee “Alon” de la Rosa, the late composer of her signature cut, still a Filipino songstress based abroad came to his defense.

Pinky Pop Fernandez—the local music industry’s so-called Naughty Diva in reference to her double entendre song “Ipasok Mo” (a Sunny Ilacad creation) some years back—said that “Pusong Bato” was Alon’s property after all these years.

Aimee and her family raised a howl of protests when Renee sang and interpreted his own composition after Torres recorded and promoted it in a multimedia playlist.

The Torreses said they own the copyright of “Pusong Bato” because they acquired and paid de la Rosa for it.

“Sa composer talaga ang copyright ng kanta kahit binili at binayaran pa ito ng isang tao para i-record (The copyright of a song truly belongs to the composer even if it was bought and paid for by a person to record it).
“Kahit ilang taon pa ang itagal ng kanta, ang composer talaga ang may-ari noon (No matter how many years the song has been in existence, the composer is the real owner of it),” opined Pinky Pop who has married David Jewkes who she lives with in Australia.

According to Fernandez, it was she who was initially offered by de la Rosa to interpret and record “Pusong Bato” when he was looking for a recording artist to sing the piece.

“Pero ang sabi ko sa kanya, hindi bagay sa boses ko ang komposisyon niya. Hindi ko alam na magiging hit pala ‘yong kanta (I told him that his composition didn’t fit my voice. I didn’t know the song would become a hit song),” she recalled in an online interview.

“Ako pa nga ang nagpakilala kay Renee kay Aimee (I was the one who introduced Aimee to Renee),” Pinky chuckled.

Among the songs composed by de la Rosa for Fernandez are "Anghel Ng Masa," “’Wag mo Munang Hugutin,” “Kahit Nasasaktan” and “Ano ang Dahilan.”
