Meet Filipina artist who has collaborated with Red Velvet and iKon
South Korean boy group iKON released their fourth mini album with the title track “But You,” a song co-written by Australia-based Filipino artist Maribelle Añes, their first in 14 months as a group.
Anes goes by the stage name Vetta Borne and considers the track as the start of her K-pop songwriting career after taking between 3 to 4 months from the time she sent the first demo for "But You" until the final version was recorded.
"The beat was so good already, that the melody and the first line “I’m in love again” poured out of me. I wrote and recorded the initial demo in a day, and then we went back and forth arranging and trying alternate versions," she said in response to ABS-CBN's emailed questions.
Weeks before the release of iKon’s comeback, Vetta Borne answered fans’ questions on Twitter saying that she is a Filipino and she indeed took part in the writing process for the group’s comeback.
“I’m a full- blooded Filipino. I live in Australia. Yes, I am queer. My full name is Maribelle Anes but my stage name is Vetta Borne. My favorite dessert is halo-halo,” she wrote.
Regarding iKON’s new album, Vetta Borne said,
“Yes I'm excited for ‘but you’ to come out!!!! are u?!”
“My first time writing in kpop is for the massive label YG… and I wrote the TITLE track for Ikons album???? That’s so huge I deserve a nice dessert tonight,” she said.
She added on her tweets,
“The first song. Can’t believe I got my first kpop cut coming out soon!”
Aside from working with iKon, Anes also worked with Red Velvet’s Irene and Seulgi as she is also credited for being one of the writers “Feel Good” track from their extended play "Monster".
Apart from writing music for other people, Añes is also a solo artist who releases her own music and has produced two EPs, "Violeta" in 2020 and "Emelia" in 2021.
