After her Oscar nomination for ‘Fight For You’ and her Golden Globe-nominated contribution to Judas and the Black Messiah earlier this year, the young artist expressed her aspirations in the acting department.

OSCAR and four-time Grammy winner H.E.R., will make her feature film acting debut in 'The Color Purple' movie musical.

Filipino-American singer Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, better known by the stage name H.E.R., will be playing Squeak, who goes from a waitress to an aspiring singer.

The role was previously played by Rae Dawn Chong in Steven Spielberg’s 1985 movie.

There are also rumors that she'll be performing a new original song for the movie.

After her Oscar nomination for ‘Fight For You’ and her Golden Globe-nominated contribution to Judas and the Black Messiah earlier this year, the young artist expressed her aspirations in the acting department.

“I’ve been so focused on making music but I think it’s time now for me to go full throttle with acting,” she told Entertainment Weekly of her immediate plans. “I’m working on that right now, following my passion for acting.”

“There is so much I want to do. People don’t really get to see my comedic and fun side, except for when I’m impersonating my aunt,” she said, with a laugh.
“But I definitely want to do a lot more voice-overs, and comedy, but also some serious roles.”

The musical is set to be directed by Blitz Bazawule, who most recently directed the musical film and visual album Black Is King for Beyonce.

Marcus Gardley is set to write the screenplay, which will be adapted from the book on the musical by Marsha Norman.

The movie is currently in pre-production, with the only other cast member mentioned being Corey Hawkins from the movie “In the Heights,” having also joined the film.

Oprah Winfrey, who starred in Steven Spielberg's 1985 adaptation of The Color Purple, is going to be producing the film through her company Harpo Films.

Spielberg will also be on board with his company Amblin Entertainment.

H.E.R. will also be among several acts performing at the forthcoming Global Citizen Live concerts to happen on September 25. She will be playing the Paris date alongside the likes of Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, and Christine and the Queens.
