What a way for a former couple to cross paths and in public yet.
This happened during the premiere night of “Atag,” one of the official entries to the first Summer Metro Manila Film Festival to be held on April 8, 2023.
In the afternoon before the gala night, beauty queen and actress Azenith Briones was in a hurry to prepare for a film event where she didn’t have an idea that she would bump into her former boyfriend.
It was only when the whole cast of the movie was led to the exclusive lounge of SM North EDSA The Block Cinema 2 where Azenith saw and met in public Lito Lapid, one of the senators of the land whom she carried a romantic torch with in the past.
Lito and Zenith were hot items during the early 1980s. As a matter of fact, the lovers lived in a beautiful house in Horseshoe Village in Quezon City.
It’s been years since they are seen together in public.
Briones was with another beauty queen and showbiz colleague Jean Saburit at the premiere of the movie where Lito—whose name is billed in the opening credits especially affixed with “and Sen. Lito Lapid”—is one of the lead stars.
During the event and after photos of Zenith and Lapid were splashed all over multimedia, a movie reporter quipped,
“bagay talaga sina Lito at Azenith (Lito and Azenith are matched).” Another guest observed: “Parang kailan lang (It’s just like yesterday).”
Netizens like entertainment columnist Erlinda Rapadas teasingly noted:
“Uyyy! Reunited” and movie reporter Wendell Alvarez said: “Ba’t di mo ako isinama (Why didn’t you tag me along?).” Socialite Corazon Esguerra Lozada described Lapid, Briones and others in the photo as “Amazing.” Former movie actress Edna Diaz Perez who is now based in the US said: “Great pictures. Sali ako d’yan (May I join you?).”
Both Sen. Lapid and Azenith now have separate families.
While Lito is busy with legislation and showbiz commitments, Azenith has just finished taping “Wish Ko Lang” which is slated to screen this afternoon in GMA Network.
