What is the real sentiment of a proponent of an awarding body when a recipient of an award has initially confirmed his or her appearance but suddenly called off his or her attendance for whatever reason?
Let's find out from Philippine nightingale Emma Cordero, the founder and giver of the annual World Class Excellence Japan Award now (WCEJA) on its 7th year.
Superstar Nora Aunor should have been one of the awardees in an awards rite held recently at the New Otani Hotel in Fukuoka, Japan.
Everything was in place for the occasion until Nora advised Emma that she couldn't come upon doctor's request of limited travel especially abroad that might jeopardize the health condition of the actress.
"Naunawaan naman namin siya. Kasi, ang payo ng doktor ay puwede lang si Guy ng isang oras na biyahe. E, mahigit sa dalawang oras ang biyahe patungong Japan (We understood her, anyway. It was because the doctor's advise was that she could only travel by an hour. But travel time to Japan would take more than two hours," said Emma which was echoed by her official publicist, entertainment journalist Obette Serrano.
In an earlier statement, Nora had clarified that she wasn't allowed by her physician to travel long distance.
"Mahal na mahal namin si Ate--a term of endearment to address an older woman or a sister by blood or by affinity--Guy kaya nauunawaan namin siya kahit nag-confirm siya noong Abril ngayong taong ito (We love her very much so we fully understand her although she confirmed her attendance last April)," explained Cordero through Serrano.
To make her presence felt in any ways, Aunor had prepared a video greeting apology for her non-appearance in the occasion to receive an award for her immense contributions to the growth and development of Philippine cinema.
In her earlier advisory, La Aunor said that in lieu of her, John Rendez would be in Japan as he was also a recipient of CWEJA.
Meanwhile, the awards night was a success.
An extension of the event will take place as Cordero celebrates the anniversary of her music bar in Fukuoka.
