Elton John’s newest album will be a balanced mix of his classic masterpieces, as well as new recordings made with various artists.

WITH the grand plan of having his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour postponed due to the pandemic, Elton John is bringing music to the world the best way he knows how.

The legendary singer announced the release of his new album titled “The Lockdown Sessions” featuring high-profile collaborations mainly recorded remotely over the past 18 months.

The album will be a balanced mix of his classic masterpieces, as well as new recordings made with various artists.

The 16-track collection, set for release through EMI Universal on October 22, features songs Elton performed with an impressive roster of artists, including Brandi Carlile, Eddie Vedder, Stevie Nicks, Stevie Wonder, Miley Cyrus, Gorillaz, Charlie Puth, Lil Nas X, SG Lewis, Surfaces, Young Thugand Nicki Minaj are more collaborators featured on the LP.

John said the new album pushed him into very unfamiliar musical territory, dipping into hip-hop, country and electronic dance music, sometimes in the same song.

This is a very interesting mix considering a lot of artists featured in his new album are in the present generation of pop music which he has dwelled on for the past five decades.

The tracks were recorded with the artists remote from each other in some cases, together with safety precautions in others.

“I realized there was something weirdly familiar about working like this," he said in a statement announcing the album.
"At the start of my career, in the late 60s, I worked as a session musician. Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that. I’d come full circle: I was a session musician again. And it was still a blast.”
“But all the tracks I worked on were really interesting and diverse, stuff that was completely different to anything I’m known for, stuff that took me out of my comfort zone into completely new territory.” the singer added.

The opening track with Dua Lipa, “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)," was released earlier this month.

Another pre-released song is his collaboration with British pop pioneer Rina Sawayama, which was originally released earlier this year.

The song, called “Chosen Family”, celebrates the LGBT+ community’s ability to create their own families with friends.
