After more than a decade in the music scene, DJ Patty spun records for the final time during an EDM festival at Howler’s Manila to focus on telling her story and taking care of her health.

What else could one do if the body starts giving up before the fire inside is completely lost?

Famous local DJ Patty Tiu made a life-changing decision and spun her last turntables since starting her career in Manila’s nightlife scene in 2011, turning ordinary nights into core memories with her sound and vibe.

Last January 21, DJ Patty ended her DJ career by providing electrifying and soulful music at an electronic dance music (EDM) festival at Howlers Manila.

Days before the event, she posted a lengthy heartfelt letter bidding goodbye to the scene that made her who she is right now while looking back at some exceptional events that she went through.

“To my family and friends, to the strangers who have come together for the love of music, music where Deuce was born from and what made us who we are. As artists, as lovers, and as individuals. As all life grows and evolves, so do we,” she began her letter as reported by When In Manila.

DJ Patty started out in a duo Deuce Manila with Kat DJ in 2011 and immediately gained a following as the local scene became fond of female DJs.

The two parted ways to build their own careers in 2017, which Patty reminisced in her letter.

“It took us to places, beyond our wildest dreams. We made unforgettable experiences with people from different dialects, languages, races, beliefs, cultures, and everything else in between,” she said.

According to Rappler, in 2011, the then 22 year-old Patty received a diagnosis of esophageal cancer and decided not to go through chemotherapy, opting to undergo five surgeries, three of them major operations.

In August 2022, Patty sat down with Rappler and disclosed that her health was deteriorating as symptoms are showing more frequently and that she was informed by the doctors that the high grade cancerous cells would begin to spread in different areas, giving her approximately five to eight years to live.

“My body can’t take it anymore, and as much as I want to keep it all, I’m going to have to choose, and because I know I’ve done it all, especially what I said I was going to do in DJing,” wrote Tiu.
“It is time to answer my bigger calling. To focus and dedicate my remaining days to what will change communities, an entire society, even globally,” she added.

With what she has left in her tank, DJ Patty decided that she will dedicate her remaining time to share her story of struggle and triumphs to leave a legacy behind apart from her lustrous career.

“And as I end my journey of performing behind the DJ’s booth, and I answer another calling, I hope you never forget our moments in time. Because we lived it. It’s inside us, and it will linger on forever.”

She then concluded her letter saying,

“Thank you for riding in this journey with me from the beginning until the end, and thank you for keeping me alive. One for the road, behind the decks at THE FINAL ASCEND. YOU AND I, WE ARE ONE.”
