Show business is in mourning anew.
One of its sons, Armando "Bing" Lao, a popular screenwriter and director has died from heart ailment at the Philippine Heart Center Tuesday, June 18.
He was 75.
Jeffrey Jeturian, one of Armando's best friends, took to social media the sudden demise of one of the outstanding showbiz personalities in the contemporary times.
"Bing," as Lao is endearingly addressed, was one of Jeffrey's classmates at the very first free scriptwriting workshop in 1982 of now National Artist for Film Ricardo Lee, better known as Ricky Lee.
It was in the half-year seminar-workshop that Armando and Jeturian got closer until they collaborated in film projects such as "Tuhog," Lao original screenplay title "Pinilakan" which won Grand Prize at the 1st Experimental Cinema of the Philippines (ECP) Scriptwriting Contest in 1981; "Pila-Balde," and "Kubrador," among others.
Bing was also the precursor of the so-called "Found Story" where the narrative, mostly, among other features, happens in a short period of time like 24 hours.
Lao's other classmates in Ricky's classes, aside from Jeturian, were Emmie G. Velarde, Jose "Peping" Almojuela, Boots Agbayani-Pastor, Buddy Palad, Philip Garcia, Jr., Benjie Tan, Nonoy Labayen, Eric Reyes, Loretta Medina, Boy Villasanta and the late Leo Abaya, Lynda Casimiro and Vincent Benjamin Kua, Jr.
Bing's remains lie at the Arlington Memorial Chapels in Araneta Avenue in Quezon City.
