IF I WERE Arkie Yulde, the controversial councilor of Lopez, Quezon who was arrested for a sex crime he allegedly committed years back, I would remain yet in the running for the Sangguniang Bayan council seat instead of a mayoral bid as what most of the people in the town have been talking about.

According to my spy, there are three opponents in the mayoralty of Lopez in the 2022 elections, namely incumbent Mayor Rachel Ubana, losing mayoral candidate in 2019 Joedil Barros and Arkie Yulde.

Yulde is said to be close to, and a rah-rah boy, of Quezon Governor Danilo Suarez but recently Joedil was seen tagging along in the provincial capitol with Fer Martinez who is running under the Suarez ticket as representative of the 4th District of Quezon. Is Barros also waiting for the anointment of Suarez as has confidently been asserted by Yulde?

Arkie and Joedil as opposition leaders want to topple down the Ubanas but how can they succeed when they are splitting votes instead of unifying a resistance move to thwart Rachel?

Are Yulde and Barros copying the tricky style of celebrities Isko Moreno and Manny Pacquiao as separate presidential bets to bar the ascension of Leni Robredo to presidency? These pols must work for the betterment of Filipino life and not to make it more miserable by their fake and selfish antics.

Bad politics reflected in showbiz past and present as in the former alliance of Alma Moreno and Nora Aunor and their cohorts to demolish Vilma Santos and her allies in 1980s to slug out each other for the queenship of Philippine movies to the detriment of the naïve fans and moviegoers themselves engrossed in the rivalry, yet wittingly or unwittingly only looking for quality movies for the improvement of Filipino lives or the three-pronged coalition among TV5, Zoe Broadcasting Corporation’s Channel 11 and ABS-CBN—fused as Channel A2Z—to maintain supremacy not necessarily or maybe against GMA Network in the competitive local broadcast industry in the name of profit sacrificing the true liberation of the hearts and minds of the televiewers by showing untruths hindering a more progressive life for the nation.
