Other than being a new demon, Filipino fans surmise that the manananggal in the game could be powerful enough to be a boss demon or at least a mini-boss to challenge players.

A POPULAR Japanese role-playing game series is set to feature one of the most well-known aswang in Philippine mythology, the manananggal.

Shin Megami Tensei V is an upcoming game from the Japanese video game developer Atlus. The game releases exclusively for Nintendo Switch on November 12, 2021.

The story follows your character waking up in a new Tokyo forced to unite with a mysterious savior and battle against bloodthirsty demons.

“Searching for answers, the protagonist must forge his path in a battle between light and dark to dictate the fate of the world,” the official description reads.

Early this week, an update revealed the demons which will be available for the player to defeat or recruit in the upcoming game.

One of the new designs is a manananggal.

Other than inspiration, the new demon is aptly named “Mananangal” while the character design does follow the lore of a winged woman with a severed upper body and long tongue.

However, Atlus has not yet revealed the official game description for the new demon nor its voice actor.

The Shin Megami Tensei series is one of Atlus’ most popular games since its first release in 1987. The series garnered much positive response that the company has produced several spin-off games that includes the Persona and the Devil Survivor series.

In the Philippines, Shin Megami Tensei has a large following of players that enjoy both the main series and its many spin-offs.

This is the first time the games will make use of Filipino elements, making the fanbase even more excited for the game’s launch in November.

Other than being a new demon, Filipino fans surmise that the manananggal in the game could be powerful enough to be a boss demon or at least a mini-boss enough to challenge players.

Either way, it is always a welcome sight for Pinoy gamers to see Filipino culture in internationally popular games.
