“Slam Dunk” is credited with helping popularize basketball in Japan and progressing the sports manga/anime genre.

TOEI Animation, the studio that worked on the original “Slam Dunk” anime series, is producing the upcoming anime movie that is tentatively set for release in 2022.

Interestingly, author Takehiko Inoue is personally working on the script and is directing the film.

With 31 volumes to its name, and a number of anime films and a television series being released over the years to better flesh out the story of the Shohoku High School basketball team.

Inoue himself will be writing and directing the upcoming feature-length film, with the mangaka also being responsible for some classic series.

Very little is known about the plot, and we still don’t have an official title for the movie.

The official Twitter account of the “Slam Dunk” movie shared a brief new teaser that gives us a brief glimpse of the work of Takehiko Inoue.

Talking about the first teaser, it doesn’t reveal any characters from the movie.

Instead, it features incredible music and lists all the staff members working hard on the project.

“Slam Dunk” originally debuted in Shueisha‘s Weekly Shōnen Jump back in 1990 with a six-year serialization run.

The manga series sold over 120 million volumes in Japan and beloved anime series that ran from 1993 to 1996, which in turn led to four animated feature films.

The last “Slam Dunk” film, Hoero Basukettoman Tamashii, was released in 1995, while the last episode of the TV anime series was aired in 1996.

2021 marks its 31st anniversary since its original debut publication in 1990.

Inoue’s “Slam Dunk” series is credited with helping popularize basketball in Japan and progressing the sports manga/anime genre.
