Cinemalaya 19 opens with red carpet of stars, filmmakers

PASAY CITY — The 2023 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival is officially on.

At the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in this city, the red carpet has initially rolled in several members of the jury one of them Ed Cabagnot who composes the Network in the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC)'s board of judges and the makers of the 10 full-length features and ten 10 short films in competition.


Malaysian film producer and curator Lorna Tee and Filipino actress Shamaine Centenera Buencamino, both jurors of the full narrative movies also walked the red carpet.


Filipino international actress Dolly de Leon who stars in two 19th Cinemalaya full-lengths, namely "Iti Mapupukaw" and "Sa Duyan ng Magiting" graced the red carpet as well with actor Joel Saracho of this year's feature film "Rookie."


Film and television director Laurice Guillen, President of Cinemalaya Foundation, Inc. escorted by actor Ricky Davao appeared in the red carpet as well.


National Artists Ricky Lee and Alice Reyes, for Film and Dance, respectively, were around together with Cinemalaya Monitoring Head Jose Javier Reyes, Cinemalaya Festival Director Chris Millado and Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Tirso Cruz III.


Meanwhile, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Board of Trustees were also present.


Cinemalaya 19 opening was hosted by Adrienne Vergara.
