After 10 years of absence from the scene, Cesar Evangelista returns to one of his first loves — film directing.
Cesar is set to shoot a film on young people inspired and engrossed with visual arts. According to its synopsis, “Sunscreen Kids” — also known as “Powder Boys” with subtitles “Amorsolo Cum Van Gogh” and “Untitled” — is a story on youth aspirations as artists despite the odds — absence of material possessions, lack of support from the school administration and, sometimes, from loved ones, family conflicts, and personal crisis — these students continue to persevere to attain their goal to have a place in the Art World and, maybe ultimately, become a National Artist.
Cesar, aside from being a writer and a filmmaker is also a professor of visual arts at the Department of Fine Arts of EARIST State College, formerly Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology, in Manila.
Ces, as he is fondly addressed by kith and kin, has directed full-length films such as “Amor Y Muerte” (2013), “Bawal” (1998), “Hilig ng Katawan” (1999), and “Kamay ni Eva” (1999).
According to fellow director Armando Reyes, he is very supportive of Cesar’s pursuits in the arts. “Ako nga ang punong abala nang magmiting kami tungkol sa proyekto (I was the point man when we met about the project),” chuckled Arman who would also be assisting Evangelista in the principal photography of the movie.
Although there are no cast yet announced, most of the actors in the film are artists.
Script of “Sunscreen Boys” is masterfully written by progressive screenplaywright Jerry B. Gracio from the production of Geri Sagnoc and Leslie Intendencia.
