As a lass of multiverses who was born in Makati City but grew up in the suburban San Pedro City in Laguna and regularly visited her roots in Tacloban City and Tolosa town in Leyte, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) President Michelle Nikki Junia has been exposed to regional music from the kundiman to the Waraynon ditties such as the Curacha.

It is in this milieu that Nikki's appreciation of the regional music has stemmed and grown.

That is why Nikki shares the idea of National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab in monitoring, exploring and developing untested but potential talents to shape the so-called new wave of national music identity.

"I support the discovery, cultivation and preservation of music from the regions. I am pretty sure there are still untapped musical talents and their creations and traditions out there across generations," said Nikki in an exclusive interview.

She is all-support of Mister C.'s advocacy in promoting regional and indigenous music apart from the established genres in the Filipino musicality.

Meanwhile, it is easily understood that Cayabyab's liberal attitude on the prevailing sound stylistics is the outcome of borrowed precepts but still keeping a national imagery and impact.

Notably, Nikki raves on the gathering of local talents in the gala concert billed as "Anywhere We Sing Is Home" like Joanna Ampil, Reb Atadero, Aicelle Santos, Gab Pangilinan, among others, who have shown outstanding interpretations on native as well as music in the diaspora.

"Anywhere We Sing Is Home" has Ryan as musical director with Floy Quintos at the helm to be presented at the Samsung Performing Theater at Circuit Makati tomorrow, September 9 and Sunday, September 10, 2023.

"Anywhere We Sing Is Home" spells the transnational spirit of Filipino artists from articulating and interpreting music from the homegrown to the international stage.
