The beloved Pixar character Buzz Lightyear is finally getting his origin film with the animated movie ‘Lightyear’ to be released in 2022.

FIRST brought to life in 1995, Buzz Lightyear, the beloved character from the classic Pixar movie ‘Toy Story’ gets his origin story film ahead of its June 2022 release.

Disney and Pixar unveiled the first teaser trailer for Lightyear offering the first look at the Chris Evans-starring Toy Story origin story.

Led by the famous Captain America actor, the film will introduce audiences to what's being described as "the definitive origin story" of Buzz Lightyear and his early days as a Space Ranger in Star Command.

The Toy Story franchise is undoubtedly one of the most popular franchises from Pixar.

But after four movies put something of a boy in Woody's story, the focus is now shifting to Buzz Lightyear.

The first trailer for ‘Lightyear’ shows off the space ranger as he heads off into space for a mission.

There are new planets, strange creatures, and even the iconic green and white Buzz Lightyear suit.

He then boards a space shuttle, with a ground control crew anxiously watching, as it blasts off into the unknown cosmos.

To the tune of David Bowie’s “Starman,” Lightyear explores alien planets, learns about space travel from an instructional robot and, finally, gazes up on his iconic green-and-white space suit in the final moments of the trailer.

Angus MacLane, the 20-plus year Pixar veteran who worked as an animator on nine of the studio’s films before co-directing 2016’s Finding Dory, elaborated on the first teaser that Pixar dropped.

“It's a sci-fi adventure movie starring Buzz Lightyear, the character. And I assume that the toy [voiced by Tim Allen] is based on either the cartoon series that was made after the movie or a later movie… So the events that Buzz is talking about in Toy Story [Buzz’s ramblings about the edge of the galaxy, Emperor Zurg, Star Command, etc.] have not yet happened.

So, this would be the origin story of who we know Buzz Lightyear to be.”

Lightyear is set to hit theaters on June 17th, 2022.
