BTS to go on a hiatus after 9 years

Korean boy band BTS celebrated its ninth anniversary on June 14 with a live-streamed event to announce a shocking news that the band will take some time apart and will go on a hiatus.

RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook broke the news during “Festa,” their annual anniversary event, saying that the decision was reached to take this time to pursue solo projects and “learn to be one again.

"We're each going to take some time to have fun and experience lots of things," Jungkook said. "We promise we will return someday, even more mature than we are now."

However, despite Suga saying, "We're going on a hiatus now," a rep for the band told E! News in a statement, "To be clear, they are not on hiatus but will take time to explore some solo projects at this time and remain active in various different formats."

The band members then took their time to thank their fans and reiterate that this move is necessary for the group.

“I hope you don’t see this as a negative thing, and see it as a healthy plan,” J-Hope said. “I think BTS will become stronger that way.”

Jimin admitted that the group had been going through a “rough patch” and that they’re “trying to find our identity and that's an exhausting and long process," he explained.

"I always thought that BTS was different from other groups, but the problem with K-pop and the whole idol system is that they don't give you time to mature," RM explained.

The singer added that he now wanted to take the time to consider the future of BTS as a group and as individuals.

On June 13, the band celebrated their 9th anniversary after dropping their anthology album ‘Proof’ as a gift to their fans who have stuck with them throughout the years.
