After BTS Jin’s deployment in the military on December 13, news have been circulating that Suga is the next in line to render his mandatory service as a social service agent.

Another member of global sensation, BTS will be fulfilling the mandatory military service. This time it is Suga who is expected to enter the military as a social service agent instead of an active soldier, reported local Korean media outlets on Tuesday.

The first to render the mandatory military duty was Jin, the oldest in BTS, who arrived at his designated camp on December 13.

According to The Asia Business Daily, military sources have approved of Suga rendering his service as a social service agent next year, but as to when exactly he is expected to enlist is still unknown.

BTS members have postponed their mandatory service under a revised law that allows “those who excel in popular culture and art” to postpone their service until the age of 30 but will still serve between 18 and 21 months in the military.

Usually, South Korean males with congenital or acquired health conditions are subject to exemption from direct service and can fulfill their mandatory service duties by serving as social service agents, normally working at community centers and other organizations within cities or provinces as cited by Korea JoongAng Daily.

This led his fans to speculate that Suga has been given the exemption due to his previous injuries that he had sustained during performances that led him to undergo surgery.

In 2020, Big Hit Music, the group’s talent agency, released an official statement explaining the reason for making a decision to undergo surgery.

“Suga also felt that it was important for him to restore himself to good health to prepare for his mandatory military service as well as his post-service musical career. After extensive discussion with the company, the decision was made to undergo the surgical procedure.”

Big Hit Music, however, refused to confirm the news.

“BTS members plan to serve in the military sequentially according to their own plans. It is difficult to confirm the artist’s personal information,” as translated by Soompi.
