After his successful premiere of "Motherland (Bansa)" at the on-going 29th Busan International Film Festival in Busan, South Korea, internationally acclaimed director Brillante Ma. Mendoza is set to do a movie on a Filipino transgender.

"It will be inspired by a colorful story of a Filipino transgender working in Japan," enthused Brillante who was a sought-after guest at the 2024 Busan.

"I am inspired to do the transgender film," added Mendoza whose "Motherland (Bansa)" was well-received at the world event.

Asian Movie Pulse.com's Panos Kothzathanasis praised the film for its adroit mix of action and drama while Deadline's Sara Merican informed that the film was shot in difficult physical conditions like climbing mountains and exploring thick forests.

"Motherland (Bansa)," which stars Rocco Nacino, tells of the bloody encounter between the Special Action Force (SAF) and the rebels in Maguindanao.

The film vies for the Kim Jiseok Award, a recognition named after Kim Jiseok, one of the ardent organizers of the BIFF.

The Busan film festival ends on October 11, 2024.
