What could international renowned filmmaker Brillante Ma. Mendoza ask for when he has everything?
Sterling creative industry career, a house and lot, a beautiful family, dependable group of friends, professional production team, awards, reliable household, among others.
Name them, he has them.
“Wala na akong mahihiling pa. Nasa akin na halos lahat (I cannot ask for more. I have almost everything),” exclaimed Brillante in an exclusive interview during the Christmas party he held at his garden in Mandaluyong City last week.
“Tulad nitong Christmas party na ito. Hindi ko ito plinano. Hindi nga ako nag-isip na magpa-party ngayong taong ito (Like this Christmas party. I didn’t plan this. I didn’t even think of throwing a party this year),” intimated Mendoza.
“Pero dahil sa mga tao na nasa paligid ko. Tulad ng mga artista at production staff ko ngayon sa pelikula kong ‘Chameleon,’ para sa kanila ito (But this is for the people around me, who are working and interacting with me like my actors and production people in my current film, this is for them),” he explained.
“Kita naman ninyo, ang gaganda at gagaling ng mga artista (You see how pretty and good my actors are),” smiled Dante Mendoza, the other screen name of the international director, while pointing at OJ Ar Ci, the transgender actress beside him in this photo.
OJ is one of the main casts of “Chameleon,” a foray into Filipino transgender entertainers in Japan, especially during the 80s and 90s.
“Maraming tao na dapat tulungan ngayon. Marami ang may mga problema hindi lang financially. Marami ang nahihirapan (There are many people who need help these days. Many are problematic not not financially but also) physically, emotionally, psychologically…),” lamented Brillante.
