Filipino actors are indeed world-class artists.
This was proven once again when versatile actor John Arcilla won the most coveted Volpi Cup Best Actor at the recently concluded 78th Venice International Film Festival in Italy.
John romped away the honors with his sterling performance as a journalist who is investigating the mysterious yet grim disappearance of his colleagues in “On the Job: The Missing 8,” an Erik Matti-directed film for Reality Entertainment.
According to Liza Dino-Seguerra who was with the Philippine delegation to the oldest international film festival, previous best actor winners in the category include Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Sean Penn, Ben Affleck etc.
Indeed, it’s a feat not only for Arcilla but for the Philippine movie industry as well.
In an interview, Arcilla regretted he wasn’t able to kiss the Volpi Cup because he wasn’t around during the awarding ceremonies but he felt still privileged to have won the prestigious award.
Meanwhile, Spanish actress Penelope Cruz took home the Volpi Cup Best Actress for her portrayal of a mom in Pedro Aldomovar’s “Parallel Mothers.”
