Time Magazine names BLACKPINK as Entertainment of The Year, becoming the first girl group to get the recognition and only the second act from South Korea to do so.

South Korean global superstars BLACKPINK became the first girl group to be named Entertainer of the Year by Time Magazine on December 5 and the second K-pop artists to earn the award after BTS in 2020.

The group composed of Jisoo, Rosé, Jennie, and Lisa, sat down for an accompanying interview to reflect on their major year from playing at Coachella in 2019 to performing "Pink Venom" at the VMAs earlier this year.

“We put in a lot of work so we could look like superwomen,” Jennie told Time. "We're very normal girls, at the end of the day."

These “very normal girls” had one of their busiest years this 2022 after putting out their sophomore album “Born Pink,” embarking on the biggest world tour, and making their U.S. awards show debut by performing at the MTV Video Music Awards.

“BLACKPINK has managed to become the biggest girl group in the world precisely by allowing its members to be solo stars in their own right,” said Time in an Instagram posted on December 6, reported Rappler.
“As the culture becomes more stratified, BLACKPINK has managed to succeed by demanding our attention everywhere we have attention to give: not just in our headphones, but also in fashion and on screen,” the magazine added.

After wrapping the U.S leg of their ongoing world tour and the various appearances in award shows, BLACKPINK is set to end the year in Europe for a couple of shows, before heading to Asia, Australia and New Zealand in 2023.

“Being able to come back with the team to tour and meet the fans worldwide has been a highlight,” Lisa told the magazine.

And when asked about their group dynamics that that captivates millions of BLINKS all over the world, Rośe highlighted the fact that they are a multicultural group as she hails from Australia, whie Jennie was born in South Korea but grew up in New Zealand, Lisa from Thailand, with only Jisoo growing up in the country.

“We’re all from different cultures,” she said, adding that the group’s differences are “only a plus” when creating music.
