The 2023 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival once again showed it true colors — as independent as it could be.
In a unanimous decision by the board of jurors, a Special Jury Prize for Ensemble Acting was forged and announced during the star-studded awards night held at the lobby of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on Sunday.
The whole cast of the film, "Ang Duyan ng Magiting," directed by Dustin Celestino, was awarded with the jury as Best in Ensemble Acting.
Singer-actress Bituin Escalante, who spoke for the group, said that they as actors depended their performances in every pages of the narrative creatively given and motivated them to act out emphatically on the fictional roles which earned a resounding applause from the audience.
This time around, too, a virtual unknown hogged the headlines as Best Actress for her outstanding portrayal as a volleyball player who gets entangled with a sisterly romance with a teammate.
Pat Tingjuy won the Best Performance by a Female Lead in the movie, "Rookie," directed by Samantha Lee.
GMA Network artist Mikoy Morales bagged the Best Actor trophy for "Tether" while internationally renowned thespian Dolly de Leon took home the Best Supporting Actress award for "Iti Mapukpukaw" directed by Carl Joseph Papa which got the nod of the judges for Best Film.
The Best Supporting Actor went to Bon Andrew Lentejas for "Huling Palabas" directed by Ryan Machado.
The juries for the Full-Length Feature category were prizewinning actress Shamaine Centenera Buencamino, awarded cinematographer Neil Daza, decorated visual artist and film director Raya Martin, Busan International Film Festival Programmer Park Sungho and Malaysian film producer and curator Lorna Tee.
