As early, it seems she is passing on her feats to her heiress.
Since she won Miss International 1979, Melanie Marquez doesn't rest on her laurels.
Many awards were vested on her even after her reign in the international stage.
Melanie won Face of the 80s in New York, USA in 1985, First Runner-Up at the Supermodel contest in 1986, Miss Beautiful Miss International winner in 2000, and was among the six finalists in the Mrs. World competition in 2005 in India, among others.
Alongside Michelle Marquez Dee, 2023 Miss Universe Philippines--one of Melanie's daughters with actor, sportsman and businessman Derek Dee--has finished off however only on Top 10 of the recent 72nd Miss Universe final coronation day held in El Salvador, and Melanie has been receiving plums from various socio-civic organizations as a model beauty-actress.
When the late entertainment writer Chito P. Alcid organized an award-giving body presented at RJ TV in the millennium, he honored Melanie as a Model Mom.
The late fashion designer Goullee Gorospe had also recognized her as an Empowered Woman.
Or is safe to say that mother and daughter are in a race in scoring wins no matter their age gap?
Knowing Mimilanie Laurel Marquez, she doesn't entertain competition, much less, with her own kin.
Michelle brought home four special awards from Miss U, namely Best in National Costume, Essence of Carnival Award, the greatest number of digital fan votes and one of the four (4) gold winners of Voice for Change.
These made her mom the proudest.
Conversely, Marquez Dee who has also other beauty titles under her belt, namely Miss World Philippines 2019 and Miss Universe Philippines Tourism 2022, is proud of her mom winning as one of the icons at the 1st Philippine Pageantry Excellence Awards 2024 at the Teatrino in Greenhills.
According to Richard Hinola III, organizer of the project, Melanie was ecstatic when she accepted the award.
"And it's an honor for us to be attended by an iconic beauty titlist. Melanie is such a rarity in this world of beauty contests so we have her the most distinguished recognition a person could ever received," said Richard.
