Virtual pet website Neopets is reportedly making a comeback on Nintendo Switch devices which is expected to generate a wave of nostalgia and support from its former players who are now mostly adults.

According to the Washington Post, the company is considering bringing Neopets to the Nintendo Switch. In a wave of nostalgia, people are supporting the decision but the Neopets team has declined to share further details

THE erstwhile popular Neopets, a website where players can take care of a virtual pet and play games, is reportedly planning to make a splash and bring the game back into the Nintendo Switch.

The early 2000s website was popular with kids for their variety of Adobe Flash mini-games to earn currency and buy their virtual pets’ food and items.

However, Neopets was not able to transition all of its Flash elements into HTML5 in time after Microsoft removed Adobe Flash Player from Windows devices last October.

According to the Washington Post, the company is considering bringing Neopets to the Nintendo Switch. In a wave of nostalgia, people are supporting the decision but the Neopets team has declined to share further details.

Neopets still has active players today and even has a mobile version out. The developers report having roughly 100,000 daily visitors and 1.5 million monthly active players.

The game could have the same look and feel as the popular website where players could manage their pets, gain daily milestones, and have the old Flash games into side games, kind of like Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Neopets was founded by two British college students and launched in 1999. Besides the fun in taking care of a virtual pet and making sure it’s doesn’t go hungry or become sad, players enjoy the Flash games.

There were so many games to play on the website, from action to card games to puzzles to strategy games. All games allow players to earn currency which they can store in the National Neopian Bank.

At a young age, players experience saving and investing in Neopets through the virtual bank. The site even features a stock market for players to earn or lose money.

Let’s not forget all those gambling games like JubJub Blackjack, Icetravaganza Scratchcard, and the infamous Wheel of Monotony.

As with many child-friendly games, dying is a no-no. Even if players don’t log in for years, their pets can only go hungry and sad.

This means if the plan goes through and Neopets is ported to the Switch, it’s possible data will be carried over and the kids who played then can reunite with their pets.

Nothing's yet set in stone, but many are looking forward to a revival of this well-loved Flash classic. (HD)
