Pinoy Pop (or P-Pop, as it's now commonly called) is now making waves in the international music scene.

The Pinoy Pop (P-Pop) group Alamat recently made it to Billboard's Next Big Sound making it the second local boy group to enter the chart.

After releasing their first single, 'kbye' on February 14, the official music video on YouTube has reached over 400k views as of writing.

SB19 is the first P-Pop group that entered the chart before and has even moved up as #6 on Billboard's Top Social 50 Artists of 2020 as announced last December.

Their fans are waiting after the group announced their planned comeback this March 9 hinting at a new single "What?"

Alamat is a multilingual Filipino boy group that sings in seven Philippine languages, according to their creative director, Ninuno Media. Managed by Viva Entertainment, the group has nine members versed in singing, rapping, and dancing.

Their song 'kbye' is sung in Tagalog, Ilocano, Waray-Waray, Bicolano, Kapampangan, Hiligaynon and Bisaya.

While the members, whose age range from 18 to 22, are comprised of co-leader main dancer Taneo from Kalinga, co-leader, main singer, and main rapper Mo from Zambales, and main dancer Jao from Pampanga.

They are joined by lead vocalist R-Ji from Eastern Samar; main vocalist Gami from Bohol; lead rapper Valfer from Negros Occidental; main vocalist and lead dancer Tomas from Albay; lead vocalist Kin from Quezon City; and lead rapper Alas from Davao City.

This follows the trend of the local music industry scene to create P-pop groups influenced by the rising popularity of Korean pop (K-pop) and Japanese pop (J-pop) music.

Aside from them, other P-pop groups currently making names are MNL48 and BGYO under ABS-CBN; PPop Generation, BIBI, and Alamat from Viva; SB19 and 1st.One managed by ShowBt, a Korean entertainment company.

Some of these groups have been trained by foreign entertainment companies like SB19 whose members trained for two years before debuting in 2018 and MNL48, who stands as an international sister group of the Japanese girl group AKB48, and also had exclusive training under a Japanese talent agency.

The idea is not only to compete with the neighboring countries but to strengthen the Asian pop scene with talented, charming groups as the 21st-century pop groups.

They will move the country forward in music on a path that has been laid out by earlier local groups such as Side A, APO Hiking Society, La Diva, and Viva Hot Babes.

Meanwhile, Alamat's 'kbye' is now in Spotify's "Fresh Finds" playlist as well as MYX's Daily Top 10. (HD)
