Why is Aimee Torres, the original singer of the hit song “Pusong Bato” celebrating her dad’s birthday with a bang today, Saturday, November 19, 2022?
Is it because she’s the only daughter of her dad and mom that she finds it a unique position?
Is it because she’s the one of the few roses—her mom the other one—among more than many thorns in the family tree?
Is it because her dad always reminds her of the kindness of her late husband, Engr. Claudio Villanueva?
Or is it all of the above?
“It’s more po,” Aimee exclaimed chuckling.
“Kasi po, si Daddy ang quintessential person in my life aside of course from my mom. It’s Dad who is my pillar. He is the navigator of my life,” said Torres.
“I will do everything for him,” added Aimee.
The singer-actress vividly remembers the sacrifices her dad did when she was just a newbie in the local movies and Tin Pan Alley.
“Nagpupuyat ‘yan kasama ko sa mga shooting at recording. Kahit sa mga concert ko, hindi nawawala ‘yan. Ideal father nga (He was staying up late at night with in my TV and film shoots and music recording. Even in my concert, he was always around),” she recalled.
When Aimee got embroiled in controversies especially during the ownership issue of the song “Pusong Bato” with the late composer Renee de la Rosa, her dad was one of her defenders and moral boosters.
“Utang na loob ko sa Daddy ko ang lahat ng natatamasa ko ngayon (I owe him all that I am enjoying in life now,” Aimee smiled.
The lady artist said she’s helping her mom mount the party at Banquet Bakeshop and Restaurant in Tagaytay City for her father, Manuel Santos Torres, better known as Daddy Manny in and out of showbiz.
“My wish for him is the longest life a person can reckon with,” said the lady Torres.
