Can controversial director Vince Tañada duplicate the success of the showing of his film “Katips” (a foray into the horrors of Martial Law) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Australia when he goes to Japan this week for the screening there of the same film?

Vince and creative teammates Johnrey Rivas and OJ Arci had a successful stint in Dubai and other UAE cities last month and have been enjoying an immense public support in the cities of Melbourne, Brisbane, Queensland, Gold Coast and Sydney in Australia this October.

“The people who showed up at the cinemas are the reasons why we keep on going. We will continue our mission in educating our young people by using our art,” informed Vince.

After Sydney, Tañada and his group which would include this time Nicole Laurel Asnecio (his leading lady in the movie) will proceed to Japan for more than one week showing in the Land of the Rising Sun.

According to Menchie Mizuno—a pure Filipina married to a Japanese —one of the organizers of the event, the screening of “Katips” in Japan isn’t a moneymaking venture. It is about love for one’s country, standing up for the truth and fighting disinformation.

Our faith in democracy is strong by using art and history in telling the truth which is our obligation not only for ourselves, for our fellowmen but for our country and the future generations),” said Menchie.

A presscon and a meet and greet event with the stars of “Katips” is scheduled at Le Boheme in Shinjuku City on October 13; premiere night at Urawa Parco Comunale in Saitama City on October 15; special screenings at the Prometheus Hall Tokyo of the University of Foreign Studies in Fuchu City on October 16 and at the House of Representatives International Conference Hall in Chiyoda City on October 25, respectively.
