Adele wins big at the Brits 2022

Adele ruled the BRIT Awards as she bagged three of the four main prizes on Tuesday, taking home Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for her latest record, 30, and Best Artist in the first genderless edition of Britain’s annual pop music honors.

The “Queen of the BRITs” picked up the first award of the night – song of the year – for her chart-topping single “Easy on Me”.

Adele won three out the four main prizes at the Brit Awards on Tuesday, where she also put in an assured performance of her track I Drink Wine.

“I can’t believe that a piano ballad won against that many bangers,” she said when collecting the single award, her first prize of the night.

She also dedicated the award for album of the year to her son, Angelo, and her ex-husband, Simon Konecki.

“This album was all of our journey, not just mine, and I’m very proud of myself for sticking to my guns and putting out an album that was so personal to me – ’cause not many people do that any more. My son has been so kind and gracious and patient with me over the years.”

Following in the footsteps of other awards shows or events that have removed gender classifications, organisers for the BRITs said in November they were getting rid of female and male categories from 2022.

"I understand why the name of this award has changed but I really love being a woman and being a female artist. I'm really proud of us." the singer-songwriter added.

Other winners of the night included Ed Sheeran, crowned songwriter of the year, Dua Lipa with Best Pop/R&B act, Billie Eilish as Best International Artist, Silk Sonic as Best International Group, Wolf Alice as Best Group and Becky Hill for Best Dance, among others.
