“I like the line-up of films for this year’s Spanish Film Festival and excited to see them,” exclaimed visual artist Bon Labora at the partake of Spanish canapes prepared by La Latina at the lobby of the Red Carpet Cinema of Shangri-La Mall in Shaw Boulevard-EDSA Tuesday afternoon.
Bon, entertainment journalist Art Tapalla and this writer were talking with Javier Galvan, Director of Instituto Cervantes Manila, the organizer of the 22nd Spanish film fest.
“We are paying tribute to Carlos Saura,” volunteered Galvan referring to the celebrated filmmaker who died early this year at the age of 91. According to the press briefs provided by IC, a special section will be dedicated to the film director, which will include his films “Embrujo,” “Goya en Burdeos” and “El Rey de todo el mundo.”
A total of twenty three films from Spain and Ibero-American countries including Chile, Colombia, Argentina and Mexico will be screened from October 5 to 15, 2023 at the Red Carpet Cinema in Mandaluyong City. There will also be co-production ventures from Spain and Mexico to be shown in the event.
Dubbed “PELICULA-Pelikula,” this year’s celebration is also curated to honor Spanish and Ibero-American films on the environment. “Pelicula en Verde” will promote green films such as “Alcarras (Carla Simon, 2023), “As bestas” (Rodrigo Sorogoyen, 2022), “El Olivo” (Iclar Bolial, 2016), “Fonos” (Gabriela Badillo Sanchez, 2021) and “Tierra” (Julio Medem, 1996).
All screenings are on a first come, first served basis.
